They are a far more creative collective than either Guns n' Roses or the Chili Peppers and outside of a few early mis-steps have an impressive body of work.

I really thought we were talking music here. The Beasties more creative than RHCP? OK. ????

I agree. The Chilis have an a pretty impressive and creative catalogue from '84 to '06. I really believe RHCP is both more creative and versatile. Perhaps not as innovative though.

Outside of Flea and Frusciante their is little talent in the RHCP,almost all their music sounds the same, the singer can't sing and what they do was done better by Fishbone and a number of other bands.

With style and finesse I'm never second best
Drink beer for breakfast pass any piss test
Mai Tai's no tie dyes I don't red by candles
I don't wear beads or Birkenstock sandals

I'm just happy a bunch of white jewish rappers got inducted and me make me want to go put on my Fear of A Black Planet t-shirt...

So What'cha Want? Who is starting the Chickenfoot petition?

I liked RCHP up to the point of Blood, Sugar, etc but then it got pretty damn repetitive and duplicative. Chad can drum, but I actually prefer Irons. FWIW, Flea is a super "sweet" guy and really helps the Henry Miller Library. Then again, he's got a place right across the road...

i'll admit i don't know a whole lot about the beasties, but are they really as diverse as rhcp? the peppers play funk, punk, alternative, straight rock, soft ballads. they have rap infused music as well. psychedelic stuff too. they've incorporated reggae, and metal. possibly others as well.

i agree that flea and frusciante is where most of the talent resides, however will ferrell... uh, i mean chad smith is a pretty accomplished drummer. i'm not sure if you've ever heard just john, flea, and chad jamming nonstop in a studio, but it's damn impressive. chad adds a lot to their live music. and keidis has great stage presence, the fans love his lyrics, and adore him.

In a quick check of their discography here is what I found in the RHCP catalog that I liked.
Suck My Kiss
Give It Away
Under the Bridge
Scar Tissue (basically Under the Bridge with different lyrics)
Californication
one song on new record, don't know the name

It should be mentioned that they butchered 3 classics Subterranean Homesick Blues,Higher Ground and Rollercoaster.I believe their first record came out in 84',so that's a fairly long career to yield a few good songs.

The Beastie Boys on the other hand produced a masterpiece in Paul's Boutique, and if they did nothing else that trumped the RHCP entire career, but they also put out 4 other impressive albums and the most recent with which I am not familiar.A quick overview if you are inclined to give them a listen.

Check Your Head:
So What'cha Want
Pass theMic

Ill Communication:
Sabotage
Root Down
Flute Loop

Hello Nasty:
Body Movin'
Intergalactic (sample lyric-"like a pinch on the neck by Mr. Spock")
Dr. Lee Phd (w/Lee Scratch Perry)

To the 5 Boroughs:
Ch-Check it Out
Hey,Fuck You

I don't hear the diversity you mentioned in the RHCP,they sound to me like a rock/funk band, whereas the Beasties truly display diversity through the use of samples and later on instruments, their dj is a seriously talented individual.
